Let’s talk about the sticky stuff

Let’s face it, most craft require some sort of glue or adhesives. We have to have a reliable way of making things stick together.

It’s no different in the land of miniatures. The hardest part of miniatures is the variety of adhesives that are needed. Depending on where we are at in the project, we need glue that is best suited for wood. Other times, we need paper glue.

Fortunately, the options for both are endless. We have so many different brands and strengths available to us.

Elmers

Elmers is the tried and true brand of glue that we all knew growing up. It was in every classroom and in every stash of school supplies at home along with a glue stick or two. I always have some of these on hand. In the last 10 years, they have been branching out to everything from craft glues to slime kits and they have all proven themselves in my crafting projects over the years.

Aleene’s

Another strong contender for craft projects is the variety of adhesives offered by Aleene’s. Their line up includes fabric glues and their most well known product is their Tacky Glue. This one claims to set rather quickly (which in the case of building miniatures, is very much needed). I am still getting accustomed to this brand and its uses but so far, I have not been disappointed.

Super Glue and Gorilla Glue

These are usually a bit too strong and unwieldy for most light crafting projects. But, when something absolutely HAS to stick and stick quickly, these are the go-to choices. They can be tricky to work with due to their drying time but they are definitely effective.

Everything Else

-Hot glue is also highly effective as an adhesive. However, the temperature can be a bit rough on your finger tips and it’s definitely not easy to be precise with the tip of a hot glue gun.

-Glue tape is quickly becoming a favorite in my toolbox when doing any sort of paper craft.

-Mod Podge – this has been a standard supply in every craft for the last… well I’m not sure but it’s definitely been around for as long as I can remember.

What sort of craft adhesives do you like to use? Let me know if there are any that I didn’t mention!
