Starting with Sunflowers
During the heat of August, my first interest is cooling off in the pool with my kids. My 2nd interest is staying inside with the A/C and crafting whatever comes to mind. A few weeks ago, I sat down to brainstorm what sorts of items I could make that were all based on a theme.
Once I decided the theme for this month is Sunflowers, I immediately began to think of ways to use sunflowers in my crafting life. Naturally the first flash of inspiration that came to me was to make crocheted sunflowers. But not just that, I wanted a vertical bouquet of them!

Bringing Sunflowers to my favorite craft
One of the longest running crafts that I have enjoyed doing is crochet. I learned when I was around 11 or 12 years old. It took me years to get the hang of counting stitches and having even rows and keeping my tension even.
Once I finally mastered those techniques, I jumped straight into the more difficult patterns and have even begun creating my own patterns. I loved being able to make something from nothing and it was so heart-warming to be able to make stuffies for my kids that they love with a bit of yarn and some polyfil.

Making my own sunflowers
My vision was to crochet 4 or 5 crochet sunflowers, complete with wire stems and put them in a vase in my workspace to brighten it up a bit. The only problem was, I had never made one before. I immediately began researching patterns and started drafting up a pattern of my own to make my flowers as my own.
After a lot of trial and error, I came up with this pattern and I’m absolutely in love with them! I have been so inspired by making this pattern that I want to expand this in earrings, a granny square and coasters.
If you make these for yourself, share a picture of them with me on Instagram! And let me know what other sunflower inspired items you’ve made.
