Why November Is the Perfect Time for Reflection
November, to me, has always been a month of gratitude — a calm pause before December’s whirlwind of parties, shopping, and year-end to-dos. It’s the space where I can take a deep breath, reflect on the months behind me, and prepare my heart and home for what’s ahead.
I know it’s not quite the end of the year yet, but I’ve learned that preparing early helps ease my anxiety and reduce the inevitable last-minute chaos that the holidays tend to bring.
What I’m Grateful for This Season
As part of this pause and reflection, I make time to express gratitude for all the abundance already present in my life.
I’m thankful for healthy, happy kids.
For a fiancé I love deeply — someone who loves me just as fiercely, and with whom I share a peaceful, nurturing relationship.
For our home — safe, warm, and filled with laughter.
For a job I enjoy and the privilege of working from home.
For family who wish me well, even if we don’t see each other often.
For simple joys, like playing my favorite video game or cooking meals that nourish and delight my family.
For access to the essentials — everything from groceries to car tires — that make daily life smooth and comfortable.
When I pause to list these blessings, I realize how much I truly have. Writing it down feels grounding. It’s a way to send a quiet thank-you out into the universe — for what already is, and for what’s still to come.
I believe that gratitude is the foundation of abundance. When we appreciate what we already have, we open the door for more joy, more peace, and more good things to find us.
So how do I plan to nurture this gratitude through November? Here’s what I’ll be doing…
Creating My November Gratitude Journal Spread
If you’re part of the journaling or planner community, you’ll know exactly what I mean when I say — it’s time for a new spread!
This week, I’m dedicating a page in my bullet journal — my current one is a beautiful square notebook from Archer & Olive — to documenting my gratitude throughout November. I plan to fill it with decorations, colors, and cozy details to make a space that’s both inspiring and deeply personal.
November is also the month we celebrate Thanksgiving. Of course, the timing varies depending on where you live — Canada celebrates in October, the UK around late September or early October. But the when isn’t what matters most. It’s the why: pausing to appreciate the blessings and abundance already present in our lives.
But I digress.
Here’s my blank page — a canvas of possibility. Some might see an empty spread and feel uncertain about how to begin. I see it as a playground of creativity: layers of photos, collages of stickers, colorful pens and markers, and a chance to organize thoughts and memories in a way that feels joyful.

Today, that blank page will become my gratitude spread — a place to honor my life, my family, and the little things that make each day special.
Finding Inspiration for the Layout
I start by collecting inspiration images — layouts, colors, and lettering styles that catch my eye. I like to create a small mood board of these ideas before designing my own version. That’s the beauty of bullet journaling: it’s endlessly customizable.

If you love the color orange, fill your pages with it.
If cat stickers make you smile, use them freely.
Your journal should reflect you — your joy, your style, your story.
I also want to use certain elements from the inspiration photos in my spread. From this image, I’ll take boxes. I definitely want to have boxes outlining the entries i’m going to make.

From my inspiration images, I’m borrowing a few ideas: outlined boxes for my gratitude entries, and playful variation in font sizes and styles for visual interest.

Designing My Gratitude Spread
Once I’ve drafted my layout in pencil, I trace over the lines using my favorite PaperMate InkJoy pens — simple, smooth, and reliable.

Then comes the fun part: layering decorations! Stickers, photos, floral accents, and words of thanks all come together to form a collage of gratitude. I opted to go for some colorful washi tape and a few elements from some PET tape.
Each element represents a piece of my life that I’m thankful for. As I build the page, it becomes a reflection of everything I hold dear — colorful, textured, and full of meaning.
And finally, it’s complete — my November Gratitude Spread is ready to use starting November 1st! I’ll be posting images of the completed spread on Instagram this week.
How do you express gratitude? Do you keep a gratitude log or a monthly spread in your planner? I’d love to see it! Share your own creations with me on Instagram. 💛
